Other Photos of Our Fires

The following pictures are some of the ones I took at the time of the devastating fires we endured in Victoria in February. These were taken from various points on the back patio of my house. As I look again at these pics, the memories of those terrible days, the 50 degree celcius heat, the cyclonic winds and the loss of life and property many people endured, all flood back. It was a scenario we Victorians will never forget.
Since February, we have had earthquakes, destructive storms and rapid changes in our weather.
Many of us are starting to wonder what is next???
Here in the south east, we have been getting major storms and cyclonic winds coming up from the Arctic, and up the north of Oz, they have been sweltering with record breaking heat and some bushfires.
The earthquakes in New Zealand (our 'brother/sister country neighbour, as some call it) have brought them closer to us apparently :)

Victorian Bushfire Tragedy

Though the bushfire tragedy was felt full-force on the 7th of February, 2009, we are still experiencing some major concerns with the ongoing fires. The threat to our communities is still present. The fires still burn; the firefighters and all of the volunteers are still working tirelessly to ensure the safety and wellbeing of us all.

Our country honoured those who were taken by the fires and those souls who were their relatives, friends, neighbours and just strangers to each other, by holding a national day of mourning on the 22/7/09.

As with the many terribly sad stories being told as a result of these wild fires, there have been many stories of kindness, heroism, compassion and bravery which have arisen from this awful time in our lives. The Aussie spirit of mateship and 'diggin in' to help a mate came to the fore.

Our precious wildlife population was reduced by possibly millions of animals as well.

The photo, above, was taken by me on the 23rd of February, 2009, to record yet another day of concern for us here. As the fires continue to burn, we wait rather nervously and hope that each new day passes without further incidents and loss of life, property and wildlife.

The detail in this and some other pics featured is lost a little by reducing them to this size to 'post' them. In the larger form, they are quite fine in detail.
